Ideas for Soothing Body and Soul
We are in the middle of summer here in southwest Florida which means afternoon rain showers and lots of heat and humidity. Some of us have been away on vacation or perhaps visiting family. As I write this, I am anticipating a visit to North Carolina for my family’s gathering at Trinity Center, which is the Episcopal conference and camp facility for the Diocese of East Carolina (my ordaining diocese). It is located at Pine Knoll Shores on Bogue Banks near Atlantic Beach. It is similar to our own Dayspring Conference Center near Ellenton. We are blest to have these places for both personal and community retreats. Dayspring has places for quiet reflection that feed the soul (like the new labyrinth near the chapel). They will also feed your body—the food served up in Curry Hall is quite good. If you are interested in a get-away place where all is provided, check out the website for information on reservations and accommodations. (www.dayspringfla.org).
August brings the start of the school year for our children and teens. As a farewell to summer, Iona-Hope will be offering a “Sunday Funday” on August 10 at the Naples Water Park which is within the regional park on Livingston Road. Bring your swimsuits and sandwiches or food to share. We will meet at the picnic pavilion for our lunchtime meal (which is outside the Water Park). Water and cold drinks will be provided by the church. The cost is $4.00 for kids under 48” tall and $7.50 for everyone else. Those who wish to participate in the eating part only do not have to pay the entry fee. Call Charles Finkbeiner at the church for more information. There is a sign-up sheet in the Gathering Place.
To get to the water park, take I-75 and get off at Exit 111 (Immokalee Road). Turn right and go about 1 mile. Turn left at Livingston Road (there will be a stoplight). The water park is a couple of miles on the left. You can also get there by taking Three Oaks Parkway from Alico Road. Three Oaks becomes Livingston when you cross the Collier County line. When you get to the intersection of Livingston and Immokalee, you would cross Immokalee, continuing on Livingston and find the water park on the left.
So, on Sunday, August 10th, first come to Iona-Hope to soothe your soul and then join us at the Naples Water Park to find some soothing water and great fellowship. It’s a great way to get to know each other and celebrate the end of summer!
God’s Peace and Blessings,
